Past Lives

Past Lives: Surfaced by Skilled Hands asks what happens when material history becomes visible again — when the hand of the maker retrieves an object, a material, or a memory from one life and gives it another. Presented in partnership with Circular Philadelphia, this 90-day exhibition at Meantime extends the organization’s commitment to circularity beyond diversion and reuse into the realm of craft: work in which transformation is not incidental to the material’s survival, but the very subject of the piece. The curatorial program favors technical mastery — joinery, casting, weaving, finishing, construction — over conceptual gesture alone, on the premise that skilled execution is itself an argument for why an object deserves a second life.
